Biography
Aloha, I'm Zano. I believe healing becomes more sustainable when the mind and body are invited into the same conversation. Many people can explain exactly why they feel anxious, disconnected, ashamed, or stuck—yet insight alone has not changed the pattern. My work helps clients move from knowing into experiencing, practicing, and embodying something new.
I earned my MA in Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling from Columbia College Chicago and am licensed in Nevada as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I am a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist, clinical hypnotherapist, and certified qigong practitioner. My training allows me to offer an integrative process that may include traditional conversation, mindfulness, imagery, breath, posture, gesture, mirroring, music, role play, or gentle movement. Every intervention is collaborative. You never need to be a dancer, move in a particular way, or accept a spiritual framework to participate.
I'm a Filipino American born and raised in Hawaiʻi. The Aloha Spirit shapes how I understand welcome, dignity, relationship, and care. I also know that culture can carry both strength and pressure: loyalty to family, expectations to endure quietly, responsibility to community, questions of belonging, and the experience of moving between worlds. I offer culturally responsive care that makes room for the full complexity of identity rather than forcing people into a one-size-fits-all model.
My lifelong relationship with ballroom and Latin dance also informs my work with performers, athletes, and anyone whose goals depend on presence under pressure. I understand the body not as a problem to control, but as a source of information, expression, practice, and possibility. Whether we are addressing anxiety, relationship pain, identity, creative blocks, or performance, our work is designed to help you respond with greater choice.
Before focusing fully on private practice, I taught Latin, ballroom, and swing dance as part-time faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My graduate scholarship produced the Manzano Movement Method, and I have presented my work at the American Dance Therapy Association annual conference. That background is why I can translate mind-body ideas into practical experiences you can actually use — the dates and records are listed below.
My style is warm and deeply human, but it is not passive. I will help you slow down enough to notice the pattern, name what matters, and practice a more effective way forward. The goal is not to perform wellness in the therapy room. It is to build change that travels with you into daily life.
Philosophy
The meaning behind Somara
Somara brings together soma - the body as lived from within - and an echo of aura, the felt quality of presence.
The philosophy is also informed by kapwa, a Filipino concept of shared identity, and by Zano's Hawaiʻi upbringing and respect for mana.
These traditions are not aesthetic shorthand; they point to an approach that is embodied, relational, culturally grounded, and accountable.
